CUCKOO International (MAL) Bhd has urged the Malaysian Government to introduce tax exemptions on home appliances that promote healthier and more affordable living in Malaysia under Budget 2026. The proposal aims to classify essential home products such as water purifiers, air purifiers, and high-quality mattresses as wellness necessities, helping families manage the rising cost of living. By advocating for targeted incentives and partnerships, Cuckoo Malaysia hopes to make healthier living more accessible while supporting sustainable business growth nationwide.
1. Cuckoo Malaysia’s Proposal for Budget 2026
In its statement ahead of the national Budget 2026, Cuckoo Malaysia called on the Government to recognise selected home appliances and wellness-related household products as essential wellness goods eligible for tax exemption.
These products include Cuckoo water purifiers, air purifiers, and premium mattresses, which the company believes play a critical role in supporting public health and improving quality of life for Malaysian families.
Cuckoo Malaysia said that by easing the financial burden through tax exemption on home appliances, more households will be able to afford healthier and cleaner living solutions.
“By aligning with the government’s priorities in the 2026 Budget, we can help address cost-of-living pressures, stimulate domestic demand, and ensure that healthier living is not a luxury but a daily reality,” said Hoe Kian Choon, Non-Independent Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of Cuckoo International (MAL) Bhd.
2. Supporting Affordable Living for Malaysian Families
Cuckoo’s proposal ties directly into the theme of affordable living in Malaysia. The company stressed that everyday appliances like water purifiers and air purifiers are no longer optional luxuries, but essential tools for wellness, especially in urban environments where clean air and safe water are major concerns.
By granting tax relief on these essential wellness products, families could save more while enjoying healthier living conditions. Cuckoo added that this move would also boost domestic demand for certified, high-quality brands that meet Malaysian safety and health standards.
3. Helping First-Time Homeowners and Students
In its statement, Cuckoo Malaysia also urged the Government to extend lifestyle tax reliefs or create a new home appliance grant to support first-time homeowners and young Malaysians.
Such initiatives would make it easier for those moving into new homes, rental properties, or student housing to access affordable wellness products through rental or subscription programmes.
“Affordable access to safe drinking water and cleaner air should not depend on income level,” Hoe added, reinforcing Cuckoo’s mission of promoting inclusive, affordable living Malaysia.
4. Strengthening Public–Private Partnerships
Cuckoo Malaysia further proposed strengthening public–private collaborations with affordable housing programmes such as PR1MA, RUMAWIP, and PPA1M.
These partnerships could allow residents to rent or subscribe to essential home wellness products — such as Cuckoo water purifiers — under price-capped plans instead of paying high upfront costs.
The company also recommended introducing targeted tax incentives for businesses offering rental or subscription services, helping reduce bureaucracy and accelerating participation in government-linked programmes.
